If you're looking for a dress with unique and collectible label appeal, you can't do any better than Rudi Gernreich. Known the world over for his progressive and provocative designs, he invented the topless bathing suit and he quickly became the go-to for forward thinking design and clothing innovation. Gernreich was considered a fashion maverick and prophet during his time and still is even today with no signs of losing his appeal. Pieces by Gernreich can be found in museums around the world including the Met and FIT, to name a few. Owning a piece by Rudi Gernreich is more than just owning a piece of fashion, it's owning a piece of history!
This dress is a breathtaking representation of one of Gernreich’s more modest styles. The knit dress is accented with an off white knit band which lines the plunging V neck and scooped back. The band wraps around the front and crosses at the breast, a style for which Gernreich was particularly famous. The skirt has a full heavy feel with a large kick pleat at the center front and back for added volume. The dress is in lovely condition with only a small darned hole on the band under the left breast and another one on the top of the right sleeve. At the time of this dress' construction, the new wave of feminism that was sweeping the world at the time had designers adding comfort as well as style and sex appeal into clothing. This Gernreich is one of the early examples of form and function in the fashion industry paving the way for the sleeker more streamlined designs of today. It even has pockets!! Aside from being a truly watershed piece, this dress is also a wearable size! Don’t miss your opportunity to not only own but wear a piece of history. Fits a Size: L (US)
